(Occasionally) Celebrity Squares

Well I've been patient with LiveJournal's constant downtime but it looks like it's only ever going to get worse, so as of January I'm going to be moving this blog here. I'm just figuring out how I want to format everything over there, and since Blogger doesn't seem to do different avatars in the same way LJ does, I thought I might liven the pages up by adding images to my theatre reviews and was trying to decide on a "house style." I'm thinking of cropping either a production photo or the poster image for each show to a 200x200 square; and maybe cropping them slightly off-centre. So for example this week's shows so far, Juno and the Paycock, The Westbridge and Sleeping Beauty - One Little Prick might be accompanied by these:

What does anyone think? I mean, I know nobody leaves comments any more¹ but could you at least let me know if you think it's a horrific idea? Ta.

So are you telling me I now need to create an account over there to keep up with you? I will, if need be. In spite of being a horrible friend and NOT posting anything or emailing or texting yesterday, I actually DID think about it being your birthday as I was driving to work. I planned to do something when I got here, but we have new politicians and the day quickly went to hell in a handbag and I just never found the time. Hope it was a very happy birthday even without my two cents worth. Still love me?

I like your celebrity squares idea, although compared to what I'm used to seeing on LJ, the blogspot pages are a bit plain. Will the square be soemthing appearing within the text of your individual posts? Will you still be able to include other pics like you sometimes do here? Is there no way to dress your background up a bit? I've only ever really looked at a few posts on blogspot, but they all looked the same except for the title at the top.

As you've found out, you can actually post over there with OpenID so you don't need another login. Of course, this place has OpenID as well and nobody without an LJ account ever seems to use it!

Yes, don't panic! And yes, had a nice day - even though last night's theatre trip wasn't specifically a birthday trip (more that I had to book very early so making it my birthday meant I'd easily remember the date) that ended up being a nice evening, all six of us went for a meal before the show.

Yeah, I'll probably be alternating it between the left and right of the text on different posts for variety, like we did on lowculture; actually that's something I can't do here which has always irritated me, I have to put pictures on their own line even if they're small. But the 200x200 off-centre thing is partly to make it have its own identity and not look like I'm just copying lowculture or Ian's blog LOL.

Yeah, you can do multiple pics, cut text etc. Basically under the circustances where I would have posted a pic here anyway, I'll do it there as well. If anything posting pics there is easier. You can do all sorts with the background but to be honest I'm not crazy about distracting backgrounds, I'd rather keep that plain and make the main entries more interesting to look at instead (and, with any luck, to read as well LOL.) But as you know every couple of years I've got bored and redesigned this blog so chances are it'll be the same there as well.

Firstly, very belated birthday greetings. I actually sent you a belated card today and am really irked that I was late. Glad though that you had a nice time.

Not to worry, it got here this morning, thanks.

Secondly yes I think that the squares vibe is nice. I like that you can then do an individual pic per theatre trip. Though that's gonna be a fair number I guess.

Yeah but I get bored even with a variety of avatars so I think doing a new one for every play will be fun; for a while anyway LOL. And it doesn't take too long, plus it's easier to integrate them in blogger than it is here.

(I have moved to blogger already as I mentioned and have I think followed your blog already though my house style is very much more minimal than I am sure yours will be :)

I've tried following blogs on blogger several times since I made my account but it doesn't seem to want to stick to it for some reason; ah, I guess everywhere has its own little bugs.

Ahw. Even though I have a blogspot myself (longer than my LJ even, it's my Digital Dutch Diary) I only know how to follow people on LiveJournal, so I'll miss seeing you on my flist:( Will you put links up on Twitter? Then I'll still stalk you, but will mostly continue to lurk from the shadows, obviously.

I like the idea of adding pictures and the way you crop them is pretty cool;)

Yeah I'll still be whoring my posts on Twitter LOL. You can follow people on blogger as well but it seems a bit temperamental.

Thanks; I'm going to do them for the last few reviews on here (even though they don't embed as nicely on LJ) just to see how well it fits different kinds of images. I'm hoping that by deliberately making some of them (like The Westbridge and The Ladykillers so far) off-centre, it won't make it look as disastrous when something comes along that's a nightmare to crop ;)
