I guess it's true that the order of episodes for this year's Sarah Jane Adventures was juggled around - if "The Wedding of SJS" hadn't been dropped before it, this ghost story would have been broadcast in Halloween week. Spoilers for 'The Eternity Trap' )

Crossover-tastic: After K-9, the Brig and various baddies, it's finally The Doctor's turn to visit The Sarah Jane Adventures.

See, the problem with two episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures per week is that two weeks in the series is already a third of the way gone. But "The Mad Woman in the Attic" guest-starred KateFleetwoodWhoIWasInAPlayWithOnceInCaseIHadn'tMentionedIt so I got to lord it over [info]dave_rc at the Coffee Posse yesterday - fame by association. No Merlin this week, but in the unlikely event that my TV reviews are your weekly highlight, luckily The Sarah Jane Adventures is now broadcast on Thursdays and Fridays, meaning the first two-part story is already finished. Spoilers for 'Prisoner of the Judoon' )

So there goes the second season of The Sarah Jane Adventures, and we already know the 3rd is guaranteed for next year. I like that this series has had an overarching theme of Sarah Jane (re)discovering her family in both the past and present, culminating in spoilers for 'Enemy of the Bane' )

Since the show returned, new Doctor Who has been trying (notably with the Slitheen) to create a recurring villain as memorable as those from the original run, but hasn't really managed it. In the more low-key of the spinoffs though, such a villain has cropped up without much fanfare. Spoilers for 'The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith' )

Diddly-din-de-din-de-din-de-din... Yes it's a really crappy theme tune, randomly chucking together the Doctor Who and Harry Potter themes and seeing what sticks! Luckily The Sarah Jane Adventures continues to defy the low expectations of the opening credits. Spoilers for 'Secrets of the Stars' )

Tonight I was going to go with [info]vanessaw to Alistair's London gig, which would have been the first time I'd seen him in a couple of years. But this morning I had to go to the Greek Consulate for yet more paperwork, then had a shitty day at work, and frankly just wanted to get home and rest. Meanwhile Vanessa was worried about being out late on a school night so we decided against it. Shame, 'cause it would probably have been fun, but not if neither of us was feeling up to it.

So instead of being social tonight I'll be antisocial in my usual way, by quickly doing a couple of overdue TV reviews.

Hmmm. A lot of posts about TV lately, and here's the first of two today. If you were going to tell me I should get a life, clearly I'm already aware of that. But come on, Doctor Who, Merlin and The Apprentice get a weekly mention when they're on, so there'd be something wrong if I didn't have a quick something to say about The Sarah Jane Adventures. Fortnightly, though, what with all the stories being two-parters. And if a kids' TV show is better than a lot of the "adult" stuff out there, it's got to be worth mentioning.

Last week I posted here about some of the upcoming TV shows I'm looking forward to. (Incidentally the first episode of Lost in Austen turned out to be, if not a classic, better than I expected, it's worth a look although probably only if you're familiar with Pride and Prejudice - but then who isn't?) Now we have start dates for some more: Billie Piper will be whoring it up again from this Thursday, Merlin is due on Saturday the 20th, and the second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures starts on Monday the 29th. Warning: The following trailer may make [info]dave_rc wet himself with excitement.

Actually that trailer's double trouble for Dave: Not only is it SJA, but it focuses on Clyde, and Dave fancies him (and who can blame him?) It's worth pointing out that there's nothing wrong with that, Daniel Anthony is much older than the character he plays and has been legal for several years. However, having read some of the comments on "the internet" when the Doctor Who episode "Journey's End" aired, I think it's only polite to say that in Luke's case you might want to give him another six months or so if you'd like to avoid incarceration, kthanx.

Anyway, the trailer: Basically, apart from the lack of Maria, yay! Sontarans! Evil clowns! Seriously, is anything more evil than clowns? Even the ones that aren't meant to be evil are terrifying. Apparently the new girl is called Rani. Which, let's face it, didn't happen by accident1. Is it (a) a tongue-in-cheek nod to the original run of Doctor Who, (b) a CLUE about something massive or (c) a red herring to get everyone on the internet into a froth, thinking it's a CLUE about something massive? Only time will tell. But let's face it, it's almost certainly (c). I just hope she can act.

PS - We already know the episode titles:
"The Last Sontaran"
"Day of the Clown"
"Secrets of the Stars"
"The Mark of the Berserker"
"The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith" (now that sounds interesting)
"Enemy of the Bane"

Current Mood: annoyed
After thinking several times over the weekend "I must remember to tape The Sarah Jane Adventures" I naturally forgot. Damn the BBC for inexplicably putting a children's TV show on during the children's TV schedule. Yes, yes, how very sad, getting all excited about kids' TV. Admit it, the Sarah Jane pilot episode on New Year's Day was better than most of Torchwood. It shat on a fair few Doctor Who episodes as well if we're being honest. At least it gets repeated on Sunday so I'll catch it then.

Anyway, if I'd remembered to tape this I'd have forgotten to tape Hollyoaks, and since (as I suspected) I was at work late, I'd have missed it. And it would have been tragic to miss "genius" Katy taking about five minutes to look through a short list of names before realising hers wasn't on it (and yes, she had to trace the names with her finger.)
