Guess I'd better catch up with the weekend just gone, and the second episode of Merlin
Well I did say I prefer ongoing storylines to big action-packed shenanigans, so this week's ep was more up my street. I wonder if the writers clocked the grumbles on the net about there being no hint of attraction between Arthur and Gwen - well they certainly ramped that up this time around. In fact Arthur/Gwen was pretty much all this episode was about. I guess it shows this series' ability to attract big-name guest stars that they got Adrian Lester to play someone who was essentially a walking, talking McGuffin.
In fact if anything this seemed to bring the two characters together romantically a bit too
abruptly, but I think the two actors pulled it off. I get the impression from comments I've read that Angel Coulby is the least popular cast member among many of the fans, but I think she and Bradley James managed well enough - considering this series is in the awkward position that no
pairing is likely to have quite as much sechshual tenshun as the two male leads. I do hope though that the relationship will continue to be slowly built up as the series goes on, rather than us having to accept that this one encounter will be enough for Arthur to make Guinevere queen as soon as Uther pops his clogs.
Obviously this week I can't go without mentioning Alex Price, aka Gilbert from Being Human
. Shame he didn't get more to say, but it was obviously the physical comedy he'd been hired for and he did a great job - nice to see him getting more work since his stay on BH
was all too brief.
Speaking of ongoing storylines there was absolutely nothing for Morgana to do this week, but from next week's preview it looks like they're going to make up for that in a big way. FIERCE!
