Time for a "something nice for a Friday" post and here's one especially for the American brand of alien. Call it an educational gift, it's David Mitchell's latest YouTube Soapbox and it's about a subject very close to my heart. I mean, you know me, I'm perfectly able to accept that Americans exist and will insist on saying certain things
wrong differently but this one has been making me angry for years. Here's David Mitchell to explain, and he's got a graph so you know he means business.
And he's positively laid-back about this linguistic travesty compared to me. I'm not even joking, "I could care less" has the ability to genuinely make me angry because, argh! It's not just a quirk of language, it's so completely wrong, it actually says the absolute opposite of what it's being employed to say. So please, if you feel tempted to use this WRONG expression, do take a moment to correct yourself. Or, you know, don't. I could care less. I know I shouldn't but I could care a lot less than I do.
Er... and have a nice weeekend everyone, and that.
